The University of Guelph’s McLaughlin Library collection includes books, periodicals, and manuscript materials covering all aspects of the history of veterinary medicine in Canada.
Strengths of the collection include more than 800 rare items on apiculture, more than 300 rare books on the history of veterinary medicine, as well as significant holdings on botany, horticulture, and agricultural equipment.
The library is also home to materials on culinary history, notably the Una Abramson and Canadian Cookbook collections, which cover topics such as domestic sciences, food customs, nutrition, medical remedies, and technological progress.
The Agriculture and Rural Heritage collections include documents on agriculture technology dating to the sixteenth century. The Scottish History Collections contain diaries and correspondence that may be of relevance to researchers interested in the history of agriculture.
Full reference service and interlibrary loan available through McLaughlin Library; no interlibrary loan of manuscript or rare book materials; no microfilming facilities in house. Holdings include rare books (primarily seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries) and 36 meters of archival/manuscript material. All material is catalogued and may be accessed via TRELLIS online catalog from the library’s home page.
