The Nunavut Archives Program contains the records of the Government of Nunavut and all of its departments, agencies, boards, and commissions.  The Nunavut Archives Program also collects the records of individuals, communities, businesses, and organizations which document the economic, social, religious, cultural, and sport history of the territory.  Note that a significant number of private records pertaining to Nunavut and the Eastern Arctic are held in the Northwest Territories Archives pending transfer to the Nunavut Archives Program.

The Nunavut Archives Program contains several collections related to the history of medicine in the territory.  The Alexander Garland MacKinnon (1916-1982) fonds contains records created by MacKinnon during his tenure as the Medical Health Officer in Pangnirtung from 1934-1936.  This includes daily diaries documenting the doctor’s rounds, medical records of patients, and reports submitted to the federal government.  The Sarah Gaunt fonds contains the patrol reports of Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers stationed in West Baffin and Cumberland Sound, 1925-1968.  These reports include comments on the welfare of local residents.  The Dudley Copeland fonds and the Douglas Wilkinson fonds contain records documenting the interaction between Inuit and Hudson Bay Company traders during the first half of the 20th century.

The Nunavut Archives Program contains a large collection of Inuit oral history interviews.  Collections containing Inuit oral history interviews include the David Pelley (1992-2004) fonds, the Igloolik Oral History Project (1986-1998), the Rankin Inlet Oral History Project (1990-1991), the Pangnirtung Oral History Project (1990-1991), and the Bathurst Inlet Oral History Project.
