The City of Edmonton Archives houses legal, administrative, financial, and historic civic government and private records of the City of Edmonton since 1892. 

The City of Edmonton Archives contains several significant collections related to health and medicine. Most notably, the City of Edmonton Health Department collection (1908-1994, 1.5m textual records) incorporates material from the Edmonton Board of Health and the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta Museum and Archives, highlighting the promotion, protection and restoration of public health in Edmonton. Other important collections include records from the CHOKKA Centre for Integrated Health (2010-), Alberta Health Services Board (2008-), Health Quality Council of Alberta (2007-), University of Alberta Hospital (1954-), Royal Alexandra Hospital (1910-), College of Naturopathic Doctors (2012-), Centre for Cross-Cultural Health (2011-) and Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation (1997-).

Private records include over 700 collections from individuals, organizations and local businesses related to Edmonton’s social, political and cultural history. Among these records are the collections of the Edmonton Horticultural Society (1909-2009) and Northern Alberta Pioneers and Descendants Association (1887-2009).

The City of Edmonton Archives also houses the artworks of 49 Edmonton artists in their collection, including the works of Margaret Chappelle, Ella May Walker and George Weber. They also house over 700 maps of Edmonton and the local area beginning in 1882, providing a geographic guide to Edmonton’s development.

There are also various digital exhibits and photograph collections that outline the history of Edmonton including their Transforming Edmonton blog and other exhibits such as Hidden Communities, The Flood of 1915, Humberstone Mine, the life and times of Ella May Walker, the Chris Bruun photograph collection entitled The Photographer’s Eye and Halloween in Edmonton. Notable digital photograph records include the collections of Hubert A. Hollingworth, Edmonton Bulletin, Hook Signs, Northern Alberta Pioneers and Old Timers Association (NAPOTA) and J. Wetherill.
