Although dedicated to the history of science, the Galileo Museum and its library and archives hold material relating to the history of medicine. It includes portable pharmacies and pharmacy jars, surgical instruments and kits, and wax and terra cotta anatomical models. Its book collection houses material on 16th20th century Italian physicians, including Leonardo Fioravanti (1517–1588), Antonio Vallisnieri (1661–1730), Alessandro Pascoli (1669–1757), Saverio Manetti (1723–1785), and many others. The museum also holds over 10,000 medical theses from the University of Paris which span the period 1798–1896. The Vincenzo Balocchi personal library is home to 1,700 books on medicine and gynecology.
