The Archives at the Women’s College Hospital contains documents related to the history of the hospital, which began in 1883 as the Women’s Medical College.  The archival collection includes material on the history of women in medicine, the history of nursing, early hospitals in Canada, and its latest addition, the history of health-care restructuring in Ontario.  The Archives also contains artifacts, including a collection of nurses’ uniforms, medical equipment, photographs, portraits, art, and hospital memorabilia.  It also holds the personal library and academic papers of Dr. Marion Powell, who was known as the “mother of birth control in Canada.”  The Archives also has the papers of Dr. Jessie Gray, Canada’s “First Lady of Surgery.” The archive is accessible by appointment only.
