Funeral Home & Cemetery Transcriptions

In addition to the funeral home records found in the microfilm collection, the Library has also transcribed funeral home ledgers, beginning in the 1850s, with date of death details and sometimes occupation information for the deceased.  Some of the volumes include a history of the funeral home and most contain an index of the names listed.

Please see the Funeral Home Transcription PDF, or the list of these transcribed funeral ledgers as described above, with details about the volumes.  See also the Local History & Archives website for specific dates.

The funeral homes include:

  • Blachford and Wray Funeral Home;
  • Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home;
  • Dwyer Funeral Home Limited;
  • Green-Guernsey Funeral Home;
  • J.B. Marlatt Funeral Home (Dundas);
  • J.B. Marlatt Funeral Home (Hamilton);
  • L.G. Wallace Funeral Home;
  • Markey-Dermody Funeral Home;
  • and Robinson Funeral Home.

The Library also has cemetery transcriptions.  A cemetery transcription is a systematic survey of the wording and location of each tombstone and memorial within a specific cemetery.  For a list of all of the cemeteries transcribed in Hamilton and the surrounding area, please visit the HPL Local History website section here.

Please visit the Hamilton Cemetery page for more information.
