The library of the French national academy of medicine holds more than 100,000 volumes of rare material, including more than 100 incunabula and more than 700 works published in the period 1501–1870, as well as physicians’ private papers. In addition to portraits, photographs, objects and instruments, the library also holds the archives of the following institutions: Société royale de médecine, Académie royale de chirurgie, Académie de médecine, Comité central de vaccine, Société de l’école de médecine de Paris, and others.
